Since December 2004, SPEECH, along with The Village Level Peoples’ federations and child based institutions from Sivakasi and Tiruchuli, implemented the relief programme in Nagapattinam, following the massive Tsunami.After completion of the immediate relief, SPEECH started the rehabilitation process, assisting all the communities-fisher folk, gypsies and Dalits- with permanent houses, livelihood assistance, educational materials, nutrition food, counsellingand skill trainings for youth.
Sri Lanka suffered armed conflict for more than three decades. Many Tamilfamilies migrated to India as refugees and were in refugee camps all over Tamil Nadu.SPEECH was involved in the refugee relief programme in camps inUchapatti, Thiruvathavoor, Mallankinaru and Anaikuttam.The major activities were assisting the children in their education, sustaining their health, and providing women and men with livelihood assistance.
